From the first time man picked up a rock or a stick and used it as a tool or a weapon, it became apparent that he needed to maintain it in peak working condition for the tool or weapon to work as it was supposed to and last him a long time.
The first man learned that a sharp spear would kill the game more easily and quickly. Shortly after that, he learned that he would have to resharpen that spear from time to time to keep it working to its potential.
The Native Americans depended on their tools and weapons for daily survival. A neglected weapon could mean death. A neglected tool would mean decreased efficiency.
Early soldiers had to work hard to keep a keen edge on their swords and spears. The leather for their slings had to be inspected and replaced as necessary.
The first soldiers to use guns learned from the beginning that a gun had to be cleaned thoroughly and often to perform when needed.
Except for the soldier modern man may not rely on his tools and weapons for his survival as the early man did but today’s guns, knives, and hunting and fishing equipment, can all be expensive. A little maintenance can keep a tool or weapon in tip-top shape and will ultimately become an heirloom-worthy of passing from one generation to the next.
Delaware Valley Mercantile has everything you need to keep your equipment clean and working smoothly so when you are ready to pass it down to the next generation it will be there for years to come.
